Three men were arrested on Wednesday at the Doral Police Station after being identified as the alleged perpetrators of an assault and an attempted robbery that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 28, at the nightclub Pink Pony, located in northwest Doral, Florida, according to Local 10.
The arrested individuals are Manuel Antonio Barrios, 25 years old; Yoan E. Guzman Bango, 33; and Sadien Alexis Mena Cove, 34, who face charges of attempted robbery with physical force and assault.
According to the arrest report, the victim—a 23-year-old young man who had stayed at the club to settle his bill—was approached by Mena Cove, who invited him to the men's restroom under the pretense of wanting to talk to him.
Once inside, Guzman Bango pushed the young man into a cubicle where three to four people awaited him; they beat him, threw him to the ground, and kicked him.
The goal was to snatch a 10-carat diamond chain and 2,000 grams valued at approximately 240,000 dollars.
An agent noted in the report that while the victim was on the ground, "he heard one of the men say in Spanish: 'The chain,' referring to his diamond chain."
The club's security guards intervened and forced everyone to leave the bathroom, but the aggression did not end there.
Once outside, Guzman Bango and Barrios attempted once again to take the jewel from the young man, but they were unsuccessful.
The victim escaped with the chain, although he had multiple bruises and lacerations on his face, neck, shoulders, and arms, as well as injuries on his neck consistent with being pulled by the chain, according to NBC Miami.
A detective reviewed the footage from the surveillance cameras at the location, which showed Mena and Barrios "grabbing the victim's chain and pulling on it," allowing for the identification of the three suspects and their arrest at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
The three were admitted to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly after 2:25 a.m. on Thursday.
Several local outlets, including América Tevé, identified those arrested as Cubans, a detail that also circulated on social media.
However, neither the arrest reports nor the authorities have officially confirmed the nationality of those involved.
This case adds to a series of violent thefts of high-value jewelry recorded in the Miami-Dade area in recent years.
In March, the police arrested the assailants of the Cuban jeweler York Valdés, who was a victim of a violent robbery at his home, and in April of this year a second suspect involved in the $100,000 jewelry theft that took place in a house in Miami-Dade was arrested.
Barrios, Guzman Bango, and Mena Cove remain in custody pending the progress of the judicial proceedings against them.
