A Cuban resident in the United States gave her mother the most unexpected gift: her own house in Guantánamo. The emotional moment was captured in a video posted on TikTok by the account @sheilacombosguant, which shows Moraima's surprise as she receives the keys to her new home as a birthday gift.

It was her daughter Ania, from the United States, who organized everything from afar. She contacted the team from the Guantanamera account, known for coordinating these types of surprises between Cubans abroad and their families on the island, and asked them to deliver the house to her mother without her knowing.

The moment of the delivery could not have been more special. The team presented Moraima with a key and explained what it meant: "a key that opens doors, that opens dreams, that opens pathways to life." When the lady realized that this key was for her own home, emotion overcame her.

His words at the end of the video say it all: "many blessings for my daughter whom I love very much."

This type of gesture has become a very active trend on TikTok since 2025. Cubans living outside the island—mostly in the United States—organize impactful surprises for their family members: televisions, motorcycles, solar power systems, and in cases like this, complete houses. A Cuban sent a motorcycle to his mother for her birthday in May, and just last Monday another surprise left a mother on the ground in excitement.

But giving a house as a gift carries a different significance in Cuba. The country is experiencing one of the most severe housing crises in its history: the official deficit exceeds 805,000 homes, 35% of the existing housing stock is in fair or poor condition, and the state construction plan barely reached 12.4% of its goal in the first quarter of 2025.

In that context, what Ania gifted her mother is not just a roof over her head; it represents a real transformation in her quality of life.
