A fire that occurred this Sunday in the Lincoln Road area of Miami Beach left three people injured and hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the Miami Beach Fire Department.
The incident originated in an underground manhole, with flames spreading to an electrical vault of Florida Power & Light (FPL) located in a building adjacent to number 230 Lincoln Road.
The authorities described the sequence of the incident: "The flames had spread from a fire in a manhole that ignited a vault of FPL from an adjacent building."
The three affected individuals were transported to Mount Sinai Medical Center with injuries classified as minor, the primary emergency reference hospital in the South Beach area.
The building where the incident occurred was immediately evacuated by emergency teams, while FPL proceeded to cut off the electricity supply in the surrounding area to prevent further risks.
During the incident response, authorities requested that drivers avoid Collins Avenue between 16th and 17th Streets, one of the busiest routes in the area, while teams worked at the site.
The Miami Beach Police continued to surround the evacuated building until Sunday night, according to local media reports.
The fire occurred in one of the busiest commercial and tourist areas of Miami Beach, particularly active at this time due to the events of the 2026 World Cup.
Lincoln Road had been designated as the venue for cultural activities of CONMEBOL from June 14 to July 14, 2026, which has significantly increased the flow of visitors in the area in recent weeks.
Fires originating in underground electric vaults of FPL represent a type of incident commonly seen in dense urban areas of South Florida, where electrical infrastructure can be affected by humidity, corrosion, or overloads, with the risk of spreading to nearby buildings through underground connections.
In June 2026, an explosion at a facility in Miami-Dade also caused alarm among residents in the southern part of Florida.
So far, no serious injuries or significant structural damage have been reported in the affected building.
