The president Donald Trump dismissed on Monday any possibility of resuming negotiations with Iran and announced that the United States will intensify military attacks against the Iranian regime, which he referred to as "bad people" that have systematically broken all agreements made with Washington.
In a video shared by the official Rapid Response 47 account, Trump stated that the ceasefire agreement known as the Islamabad Memorandum "was finalized" before Iran violated it, as it has done with nearly ten previous agreements.
“It was closed and then they broke it. They always break it. We have had ten agreements with these people. So we are just going to hit them very hard,” the leader stated.
The Islamabad Memorandum, signed on June 17 and 18, 2026 with the mediation of Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, established a ceasefire lasting 60 days, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the initiation of denuclearization negotiations, in addition to the unfreezing of Iranian assets amounting to between 12,000 and 25,000 million dollars and access to a reconstruction fund of 300,000 million.
The agreement collapsed when Iran attacked at least three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz between July 6 and 7, including a tanker that caught fire after being hit by an Iranian projectile.
Trump declared the truce "over" on July 8 during the NATO summit in Ankara and ordered bombings against more than 80 Iranian targets. Iran responded by attacking U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, leaving at least one dead and 60 injured.
This Sunday, the Central Command of the United States Armed Forces (CENTCOM) confirmed a third wave of bombings that targeted more than 300 Iranian military objectives in a single week.
Trump also announced that Washington will take permanent control of the Strait of Hormuz and will demand economic compensation from the nations that benefit from this maritime passage.
"We guarded the strait for more than 50 years and were never paid for it. Now we will guard it and we are going to be paid a lot of money," he stated.
The president also referred to the internal repression in Iran, stating that the regime has killed 52,000 protesters. This figure has not been independently verified; human rights organizations have documented thousands of deaths and more than 22,000 arrests since the protests began in December 2025, driven by the collapse of the rial and the economic crisis.
The open armed conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran erupted in February 2026 with Operation Epic Fury, during which Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died on February 28.
His son Mochtabá Jamenei was appointed the new Supreme Leader on March eighth, at the helm of a regime facing both an external war and a deep internal legitimacy crisis.
It is worth remembering that the CIA director, John Ratcliffe, had already warned Trump before signing the June agreement that Iran would likely not meet its nuclear commitments, particularly the central dispute over the duration of the uranium enrichment prohibition: Washington demanded 20 years, while Tehran offered between five and 15.
This Monday, Trump shut the door on any resumption of dialogue with a decisive statement: "They are bad people. They have been this way for a long time. And right now, they are getting what they deserve."
