Beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in the United States will not receive any deposits during August 2026, according to reports from various local sources.
The reason is not a cut or a suspension of the program, but rather a schedule adjustment that moves the payment to Friday, July 31.
The change is because August 1 falls on a Saturday.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has an operating rule that states that when the first day of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the deposit is sent on the last business day prior.
Who does the change affect?
The adjustment affects approximately 7.5 million people enrolled in the SSI, a program aimed at individuals aged 65 and older, people with disabilities or blindness, and those with limited income and resources.
"The adjustment applies only to those receiving SSI benefits. It does not affect beneficiaries of retirement, disability, or survivor benefits from Social Security, who will continue to receive their August payments according to the usual SSA schedule," specified elsalvador.com, citing the outlet La Opinión.
For beneficiaries of regular Social Security, the August schedule remains unchanged and depends on the birth date of the holder:
- Born between the 1st and the 10th of the month: they will be paid on Wednesday, August 12th.
- Born between the 11th and the 20th: they will be paid on Wednesday, August 19th.
- Born between the 21st and 31st: they will be paid on Wednesday, August 26th.
There is also a special group that will receive their payment on August 3: those who began receiving benefits before May 1997 or those who receive Social Security and SSI simultaneously.
Two deposits in July, none in August
SSI beneficiaries will receive two deposits in July: the first on July 1, corresponding to the regular payment for that month, and the second on July 31, which corresponds to the benefit for August.
"The modification, clarified the SSA in its public information about the SSI, does not imply a change in the benefit or an additional payment: it is merely a calendar adjustment," noted Infobae.
The next SSI deposit will arrive on September 1, corresponding to that month.
How much can one receive from SSI in 2026?
According to the official SSA table for 2026, the maximum monthly federal amounts are:
- $994 for an eligible individual applying on their own.
- $1,491 for an eligible couple.
- $498 for an "essential person," a status outlined by the program.
The SSA warns that the actual amount may be lower than the federal maximum, as it depends on factors such as income, housing situation, and other elements of the individual case.
The program also requires beneficiaries to report changes in salaries, other income, and residency arrangements, as these factors affect the calculation of the payment.
Other months with advance payments in 2026
This type of adjustment is not exclusive to August.
The SSI calendar will have similar movements for the remainder of the year: in October, there will be two deposits - on the 1st and the 30th - with the second one counting for November; and in December, the same will happen, with a payment on the 31st that will correspond to January 2027.
This adjustment for August comes in a year with several significant changes for beneficiaries of the Social Security in the United States, including a 2.8% increase for the cost of living adjustment applied since January 2026, which benefits about 72.5 million people and represents an average increase of approximately $56 monthly for retirees.
"The key for beneficiaries is to check the official calendar and to remember that an early payment does not mean extra money, but rather the deposit for the following month made early due to the regular date coinciding with a weekend or holiday," concluded a local source.
