The Cuban delegation has accumulated 6 golds, 2 silvers, and 6 bronzes at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, for a total of 14 medals, and remains in third place in the overall medal standings after another day of competition this Sunday.
Judo and rowing have been the cornerstones of Cuba's success in these early days. Marlon Herrera was crowned in the 73-kilogram division, while the duo formed by Reidy Cardona and Leduar Suárez won the gold in the men's double scull with a time of 6:32.80 at the Rincón Dam in Bonao.
These two titles add to those previously obtained by judokas Jonathan Charón (60 kg), Orlando Polanco (66 kg), and Dali Sentmanat (52 kg), along with the gold medal from cyclist Marlies Mejías in the women's individual time trial of 30 kilometers, Cuba's first gold in Santo Domingo 2026, achieved on Saturday with an average speed of 44.7 km/h.
At the top of the medal table is Mexico with a wide lead: 16 golds, 15 silvers, and 12 bronzes, for a total of 43 medals. Colombia is in second place with 6 golds, 8 silvers, and 5 bronzes (19 medals), surpassing Cuba only by the number of silvers.
Behind the Cuban representation are Venezuela, in fourth place with 4 golds, 5 silvers, and 8 bronzes (17 medals), and the host country, the Dominican Republic, in fifth place with 3 golds, 2 silvers, and 8 bronzes (13 medals).
The delegation from the Island in this edition is made up of 504 athletes across 42 disciplines, one of the largest in the competition. The official goal set before the start of the Games is to finish among the top three in the medal table and to secure between 67 and 68 gold medals in total.
That position on the regional podium is not new for Cuba: at the San Salvador 2023 Games, the delegation also finished third with 74 golds, 59 silvers, and 63 bronzes, behind Mexico and Colombia. Historically, Cuba has been the dominant powerhouse in the event, with over 1,800 golds accumulated in the all-time medal tally and a streak of first-place finishes that lasted from 1970 to 1998, along with leadership in 2006 and 2014.
With numerous events still yet to be contested and several of its main contenders awaiting their turn to compete, the Cuban delegation will aim to climb the medal standings during the upcoming days of competition in Santo Domingo.
