Firefighters and personnel from the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIUM) of Holguín rescued a citizen who suffered a fall resulting in a fracture and various injuries on the Loma de la Cruz, the most iconic hill in the city of Holguín.
The operation took place with the support of local residents, who accompanied the emergency teams during the intervention.
The citizen was attended to at the scene of the accident, properly immobilized, and safely transported to ensure his recovery.
The source that reported the incident highlighted the joint efforts of the emergency services: "Our brave firefighters, the SIUM staff, and accompanied by the people, once again demonstrated their commitment to life."
The operation was deemed successful: "The citizen was immediately attended to, immobilized, and safely transported to ensure their prompt recovery."
The Loma de la Cruz is an iconic elevation north of Holguín, accessible via a staircase of 458 steps built between 1927 and 1950 with contributions from the local population.
The combination of steep steps, significant elevation changes, and the constant influx of visitors and exercise enthusiasts turns the site into a setting with a real risk of accidents due to falls.
The firefighters of Holguín have a recent history of similar interventions. In May of last year, theyrescued a 73-year-old man who was trapped by the rising waters of the Marañón river, who had injuries from a fall and a possible hip fracture.
In December, the same team evacuated a patient with a hip fracture from a five-story building in the Reparto Nuevo Holguín, using safety equipment and controlled maneuvers.
