opens this Thursday with a mixed outlook: the US dollar maintains its position without any changes, the euro gives up some ground compared to the previous day, and the MLC shows a slight decline.
At 10:00 a.m. (Cuban local time) the dollar remains at 673 CUP, the euro hovers around 783 pesos, and the MLC is trading near 450 pesos.
Summary of informal market exchange rates
- Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 673 CUP.
- Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 783 CUP.
- Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 450 CUP (indicative value, few data).
Dollar: Unchanged and anchored at recent levels
The US dollar is trading at 673 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, with a buying price of 670 CUP and a selling price of 675 CUP.
It remains unchanged compared to the previous day and also compared to seven days ago, when the price was identical.
Exchange Rate Evolution
It continues to set the pace of the informal market in a context of structural shortages of foreign currency.
In the last month, the dollar has fluctuated between a low of 655 CUP and a high of 675 CUP, reflecting notable stability within this range.
Compared to 30 days ago, the average value has increased by just 1.5 pesos, although this comparison may also reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index and not just market movement.
Euro: Slight pullback after several days of upward pressure
The euro starts this Thursday on a low note.
It is quoted at 783 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a purchase at 775 CUP and a sale at 790 CUP.
This represents a decrease of 2.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed around 785 pesos, and a drop of three pesos from the 786 recorded seven days ago.
Despite this specific setback, the euro has risen by 19 pesos over the past month. However, as with the dollar, this 30-day variation should be interpreted cautiously, as it may reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index.
In the last month, the European currency has reached a high of 790 CUP and a low of 745 CUP.
It is stated as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 110 pesos in its average value.
MLC: Indicative value downwards, with limited data available
The MLC is trading around 450 Cuban pesos (CUP) in this opening, with a purchase price of 439 CUP and a sale price of 461 CUP.
This represents a decrease of 1.5 pesos compared to the 452 CUP from the previous day.
However, the available data during this time frame is limited, so this value should be regarded as indicative.
In the weekly perspective, the decline is more pronounced: a week ago it was trading around 478 pesos, which represents a decrease of 28 pesos (-5.9%).
In the last month, the MLC has fluctuated between a maximum of 496 CUP and a minimum of 425 CUP.
Without a physical existence, its use is limited to the state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.
The gap with the official rate, an abyss that persists
The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 618 CUP per dollar and 714 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that apply in everyday practice in the informal currency market.
The difference is 55 pesos for the dollar and 69 pesos for the euro, a gap that the informal market widens or narrows depending on demand pressure.
Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the public.
In the last month, the official exchange rate of the dollar has risen from 589 to 618 CUP, and that of the euro from 672 to 714 CUP, which demonstrates a sustained depreciation of the peso in the official channel as well.
In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every variation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The CiberCuba Exchange Rate is an index of the Cuban informal market created through the automated analysis of thousands of currency exchange postings in Telegram and Facebook groups.
The calculation excludes atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each operation based on its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
