A seven-year-old boy was injured after the total collapse of the roof of a residential entrance in Colón, Matanzas, while several children were playing in the area. The child sustained a blow to the forehead and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center of Colón reported this Thursday on Facebook that the collapse occurred at 4:20 PM in a private residence located in the area of the former Psychiatric Hospital, in Colón Sur.
The minor was identified as Yasiel Luís Hernández Martín. Medical authorities diagnosed him with a mild cranial trauma and kept him under observation, reported as serious but stable.
The director of the Mario Muñoz Hospital in Colón later confirmed that the child had stable hemodynamic parameters and was not in danger of life.
Yasiel would be transferred to the Pediatric Hospital of Matanzas to continue his evaluation, as patients with cranial traumas, whether simple or complex, are referred to that institution to monitor their progress.
According to the official statement, the portal collapsed due to the advanced deterioration of its support columns, which could not withstand the weight of the upper beams.
The resident of the house began to clear the debris and prepare for the demolition of the parts of the porch that still posed a danger.
Authorities from the municipal government and officials from the risk reduction center went to the site.
The incident occurs just one day after another serious collapse at the old ESBEC La Uno, in Remedios, Villa Clara, which left two people dead and one rescued alive.
The emergency teams worked throughout the night among the rubble of the old school. One of the trapped individuals was extracted alive and taken to Arnaldo Milián Castro Hospital, while the bodies of the other two victims were recovered on Thursday morning.
