A young Cuban content creator reported this Friday that thieves broke into her home in Havana during the early morning hours while several people were inside and stole an EcoFlow Delta 2 power station and an electric bicycle, in addition to the house and vehicle keys.
The report was published by Grett Argil on Facebook, who explained that she decided to record the video after calming down and processing what had happened.
"They stole from me," she began by saying before recounting how they discovered that someone had entered the home without any of those present noticing.
According to her account, around 11:00 at night, the electricity returned to her neighborhood, and at that moment, the front door of the house was closed. Inside the house were her, her brother, her sister-in-law, and a friend.
Around 1:40 in the morning, her sister-in-law came to her room to ask if she had gone out, because she found the door "wide open".
Argil assured that she had stayed awake and did not hear anything unusual.
At that moment, they partially inspected the home but did not notice anything missing. The extent of the theft became clear around 7:00 in the morning when his brother was getting ready to go to work and discovered that the EcoFlow Delta 2 and his sister-in-law's electric bike were no longer there.
"I can’t explain the stress, the level of agitation that my brother, my sister-in-law, and I all experienced," he recounted.
The young woman emphasized the effort that it takes for a Cuban family to acquire this type of equipment.
These are valuable things, things that take effort to obtain, he stated, and lamented that someone could come in and take them away "just like that."
Argil said that some people mentioned to him that, given the seriousness of the incident, it was better that none of the residents of the house surprised the thief, as the encounter could have had worse consequences.
However, he admitted that he finds it difficult to accept the loss precisely because of how complicated it was to obtain those assets.
"You don’t know how hard it is, the effort it takes for both your family and yourself to obtain those things," he stated.
According to his testimony, the keys to the house and the keys to the scooter also went missing.
The young Cuban explained that they called the police shortly after 7:00 in the morning, but the officers did not arrive at the house until after 5:00 in the afternoon because, as they were informed, they were dealing with another incident involving a deceased person.
By that time, he added, a heavy downpour had fallen, and any potential traces at the scene could no longer be found. That account of the police response corresponds exclusively to the statement of the complainant.
Argil estimated that an electric bicycle like the one stolen currently costs over $1,700 and that an EcoFlow can cost more than $700.
Beyond the price, he emphasized the importance that these devices have for tackling everyday challenges in Cuba, particularly issues related to electricity and fuel.
These are sacrifices one makes to be a little better in this country. For them to come and take it away from you, I believe that's the worst thing that can happen to you, he lamented.
The robbery caught her off guard, especially because she stated that she had never before been a victim of such an incident and she also did not recall any similar occurrences in her neighborhood.
"I am still a little in shock that this happened, right here in my house and exactly the way it did," he/she acknowledged.
Despite the blow, Argil assured that he is trying to focus on the fact that none of the occupants of the house were injured.
"I'm healthy, I'm alive, and that's what matters, but it's true that it hurts," she stated, before expressing her gratitude for the support from those who reached out to her after learning about what happened.
This is not the first recent report related to the theft of equipment used to address power outages.
In February, a family from Cárdenas, Matanzas, reported that several individuals entered a home in broad daylight and took an EcoFlow station.
The complainant then stated that the individuals responsible went directly to retrieve the equipment.
Days later, another case was reported in Amancio, Las Tunas, where a woman reported the theft of an AVA 150 motorbike, an EcoFlow device, and several engine parts.
On that occasion, the affected party also emphasized that the assets had been acquired through years of hard work and family sacrifice.
In Havana, there have also been reports of transportation thefts. In July 2025, a messenger reported the theft of his bicycle while making a delivery in the El Canal neighborhood, in the Cerro municipality.
