The Cuban first baseman Yandy Díaz shone again this Sunday, hitting four singles in the 4-1 victory of the Tampa Bay Rays over the Seattle Mariners, as reported by Pelota Cubana.
The player from Villa Clara finished the game with a 5-for-4 record, including four singles, one run scored, and one driven in, establishing himself as one of the offensive cornerstones of the Tampa Bay team.
It was his fifth game with at least four hits in the 2026 season and the 14th of his entire career in Major League Baseball, a record that speaks to the Cuban's ability to string together performances with multiple hits.
With his performance, Díaz raised his average to .298, resulting from 131 hits in 439 at-bats, and reached 65 runs batted in for the season.
His offensive line in 2026 also includes 20 doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs, figures that place him among the most complete hitters in the American League.
The victory left the Rays with a record of 71-46, leaders of the American League East Division with a 5.5-game lead over the Yankees, amid a streak of six consecutive wins and a record of 8-2 in their last ten games.
The performance on Sunday adds to a season filled with milestones for the player from Sagua la Grande: he started the year with a historic batting average of .429 in his first six games, and on July 25, he made history with the Rays by becoming the fourth player in the franchise to reach 1,000 hits with the team, joining Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, and Ben Zobrist.
He was also the first Cuban to join that historic group from Tampa Bay.
Earlier, on May 7, Díaz reached his 1,000th hit in MLB with a ground-rule double at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox, another chapter in a season that solidifies him as a leading figure of Cuban baseball in the Major Leagues.
With the Rays making a strong case as favorites in the East Division and Díaz in peak form, the player from Villa Clara aims to conclude 2026 as one of the most complete seasons of his career.
