Miami experienced a historic heat day on Tuesday, matching the highest temperature recorded in the city, a record that had only been reached once since weather records began in 1895.

The office of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami confirmed that the temperature reached 37.8 °C in the afternoon, matching the all-time record last set in 1942.

"Miami reached 37.8 °C this afternoon for only the second time since 1895. This matches the historical record for maximum temperature last set in 1942," stated the monitoring center's publication.

The brand marked this Tuesday as the hottest day in Miami in 84 years, leaving the city with just two days in its entire documented weather history in which the thermometer reached that level.

Meteorologist Matt Devitt also highlighted the exceptional nature of the record in a post on X.

"Miami has just tied its highest temperature ever recorded. Today was the hottest day in the city in 84 years and only the second time it has reached that mark," it was noted.

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, also reacted to the record in a post on X.

"I used to tell people that Miami hadn't reached that temperature in 80 years. I can no longer say that," he wrote after the historic day.

The new record has a greater scope than the record that was broken just a few days earlier. Miami had set a daily temperature record by exceeding the highest temperature recorded for that date since 1909.

This time, however, the city matched its absolute heat record, meaning the highest temperature ever recorded in Miami on any date since records have been kept.

The situation subsequently worsened, and meteorological authorities issued a heat advisory for extreme heat in South Florida, which included Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach.

For those areas, thermal sensations of between 40.5 and 44.4 °C had been reported due to the combination of high temperatures and humidity.
