New testimonies collected by independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada, from the platform Tanteando Cuba, reveal disturbing details about the handling of the body of Carlos Estenos, the young man from Camagüey found dead this Saturday in the area known as Las 500, in the municipality of Vertientes.

The case was initially reported by the citizen platform NiO Reporting a Crime, which preliminarily indicated that the body may have been found bound and burned, suggesting that the motive could be the theft of money and horses. None of these details have been officially confirmed by the Cuban authorities. Carlos had been reported missing the day before, when family and friends shared his photo on social media, seeking information about his whereabouts.

This page states that "Carlos would have gone to the location because he knew and trusted the person who presumably contacted him" to buy animals.

According to the testimonies published by Tan Estrada, Carlos lived in the city of Camagüey, but his body was moved to Vertientes, where he was quickly buried at night.

What the family describes as a major irregularity is that their parents —Mercedes, their mother, and their father— were unable to see the body or say goodbye to him. "The only person who was able to see him was his brother, who went to the location to identify him," Tan Estrada specified.

The family claims that Medicina Legal ordered the body to be buried that very night, without performing an autopsy.

Carlos's parents, residents of the Nadales neighborhood in the city of Camagüey, are at the Provincial Government seeking answers. "They are currently at the Provincial Government of Camagüey demanding and looking for answers regarding what happened to their son," wrote the journalist.

The family also demands that the remains be returned to Camagüey, where the young man lived. "They were not even allowed to say goodbye to their son or see his body," Tan Estrada reported.

The journalist also warned that the case could have more facets than those currently known: "Sources indicate that there are other elements surrounding the death that have not yet come to light, and an investigation could provide new information about the circumstances in which Carlos lost his life."

The discovery occurs within a context of growing insecurity in Camagüey, a province that has seen violent thefts and other criminal incidents in recent months. The rural area of Vertientes, where the body was found, had previously been the scene of an earlier crime that also did not receive attention from state media.

So far, neither the Ministry of the Interior nor the Public Prosecutor's Office has issued any public statement regarding the case or announced the start of a formal investigation.
