Johnny Luis Quevedo Inza was arrested in Holguín, accused of brutally assaulting his two-year-old stepson.

The incident was reported by the independent platform NiO Reporting a Crime and then confirmed by the official page Cazador Cazado in their Facebook posts.

The events allegedly took place in the Hilda Torres neighborhood, municipality of Holguín, where the man reportedly struck the minor and, after the assault, submerged him in a tank of water in circumstances described as an attempt on his life.

The child was transferred to the Pediatric Hospital "Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja", the main pediatric referral center in eastern Cuba, where he remains hospitalized.

According to a contributor from the Cazador Cazado page present at the medical center, "his life is not in danger."

However, new reports received by NiO Reporting a Crime paint an even graver picture.

An anonymous source reported that the hospitalized minor showed multiple bruises on the body and around the eyes, and that he had not been able to undergo surgery "due to a case of malnutrition and low hemoglobin levels."

The same source indicated that the mother has another child, four years old, who would also have been a victim of physical abuse by Quevedo Inza, including cigarette burns on the body on several occasions.

The mother herself also reportedly suffered domestic violence at the hands of the detainee, showing signs of bruising and swelling around her eyes, according to the same testimony.

Another element that must be verified by the authorities is the criminal record of the accused: the source confirmed that Quevedo Inza had recently been released from prison following a case related to the assault of another young person with a sharp weapon.

After the incident, the man fled and was actively sought by the police until he was located and arrested in the afternoon hours of Saturday.

The case adds to a series of incidents of child abuse in Cuba that have sparked public outrage, primarily reported through independent platforms on social media due to the lack of coverage by official media.

In October 2025, the police arrested a mother and her partner in Holguín after a video went viral showing them beating a ten-year-old girl with a stick.

In July 2025, a mother and a stepfather were charged with homicide in Matanzas following the death of a two-year-old boy showing signs of abuse.

In March 2026, a baby was rescued in Camagüey suffering from malnutrition and signs of abuse, which led to the mother's arrest.

In light of this new case, the official platform Cazador Cazado issued a call for reflection: "We urge parents, family members, or guardians to seek alternatives and solutions without resorting to mistreatment or aggression, whether physical or verbal."
