A Cuban citizen identified as Jesús Moisés "N" was arrested this Sunday in Cancun with more than 100 doses of suspected drugs and 1,420 Mexican pesos in what appeared to be counterfeit bills, authorities in Quintana Roo reported.
The arrest occurred on 8th Street in the municipality of Benito Juárez during an operation by the Orion Group, in coordination with the National Defense, the Secretary of the Navy, and the National Guard, according to the Secretary of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo.
According to the official report, the agents observed the Cuban handling small bags containing a substance with characteristics similar to marijuana and proceeded to conduct a search.
The authorities seized 77 doses of alleged marijuana and 25 doses of presumed crystal, totaling 102 doses.
They also seized 1,420 Mexican pesos in banknotes of various denominations that were allegedly counterfeit.
The Secretariat of Citizen Security also stated that Jesús Moisés "N" "is connected to commercial robberies and is reported to have paid with allegedly counterfeit bills." The authorities did not provide details about these incidents nor specified if there are any previous charges against him.
The detainee and the seized items have been made available to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Combat of Drug Dealing in Quintana Roo, which will determine their legal situation.
The case adds to other recent arrests of Cuban citizens for alleged drug-related offenses in Quintana Roo. On August 18, Carlos Alejandro "N", a 33-year-old Cuban, was arrested in Cancun for suspected drug dealing and his possible connection to several robberies.
At the beginning of the same month, three other Cubans were arrested at Mercado 28 with over 130 doses of suspected drugs.
