The Mexican actor Pablo Lyle will be released from prison in December of this year, several months earlier than originally anticipated, according to records cited by Hola and People en Español.
The news rekindles interest in a case that impacted the Latino community in Miami and that had Juan Ricardo Hernández, a 63-year-old Cuban, as its fatal victim.
The release date and why it was moved up
The journalist Tanya Charry, from the Univision program El gordo y la flaca, shared the details this week.
According to the explanation, Lyle's release was initially scheduled for September 2027, but the time accrued during the judicial process and his good behavior in prison allowed for his release date to be moved up.
Lyle will be released from prison on December 29, a date that will mark the end of his stay in a state prison in Florida.
“This New Year will definitely be the most anticipated for Pablo Lyle because by that time it is expected that the actor will regain his freedom after spending three years in prison for the death of Juan Hernández in a road incident that occurred in 2019,” Charry stated.
Lyle is serving his sentence in a low-security state prison in Florida.
The incident that changed everything
The origin of the case dates back to March 31, 2019, when Lyle was involved in a traffic altercation in Miami.
After a public altercation, the actor got out of the vehicle and struck Hernández, who fell unconscious.
Four days later, Hernández passed away in the hospital due to the injuries sustained.
Lyle was initially arrested but was released after posting bail.
The judicial process lasted for years until, in October 2022, a court found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Judge Marisa Tinkler Méndez sentenced him in February 2023 to five years in prison, eight years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and an anger management course. The sentence was significantly lower than the maximum of 15 years prescribed for that crime in Florida.
The magistrate herself then acknowledged the weight of her decision.
"This is one of the most difficult rulings I have had to make during my time as a judge in Miami-Dade County," she said.
What will happen after his release from prison?
However, getting out of prison will not necessarily mean the end of the actor's legal troubles.
According to Charry, immigration authorities could initiate the deportation process to Mexico even before December 29, in order to prevent Lyle from staying longer in immigration custody after completing his sentence.
"At midnight on the upcoming December 29, Pablo Lyle will be a free man. They could probably begin the deportation process a few weeks earlier so that he doesn't spend any more time in prison," the journalist clarified.
Regarding the civil lawsuit, the family of Hernández had claimed between one and five million dollars for damages, funeral expenses, and compensation for the deceased's girlfriend, but the judge dismissed it due to procedural inactivity after the parties remained inactive for over 10 months.
The financial situation of the actor is also complicated. Sources close to Lyle, quoted by TVNotas, warned: "Everyone who knows Pablo is wondering where the money will come from, as he is completely bankrupt with all the legal expenses and the six years he has been out of work."
Return to soap operas?
From prison, according to those sources, Lyle has studied Law and is writing an autobiography while a possible biographic series about his life is being developed.
The producer Juan Osorio has publicly declared on several occasions that he would give work to the actor once he regains his freedom, convinced that Lyle will be able to "rise again like the Phoenix."
However, sources warn that if the book or the biographical series were to come to fruition, Hernández's family might demand a freeze on the earnings generated from those projects.
