Javier Tamayo Reyes, a 16-year-old known among family and friends as "Boty," died after being stabbed in the chest during a quinceañera celebration in Río Cauto, Granma, according to reports and testimonies from local residents shared on social media.
The death of the young man has caused shock in the municipality, where since the news broke, family members, neighbors, and friends have been posting farewell messages and calls for justice on social media.
One of the first publications about the case was made by Nelson Escalante Pérez, who reported that a young man had lost his life during a quinceañera party in the La Cayama neighborhood, near the cemetery area, and expressed his condolences to family and friends.
As the hours went by, testimonies began to emerge that provided new details. Ana Araujo stated that Javier was 16 years old and specified that "he was killed with a knife wound."
Another resident, Yohendris Despaigne, agreed that the teenager was attacked with a knife and added a detail about how it happened: “It all happened quickly; he was stabbed once in the chest.”
Although these testimonies agree that Javier sustained a single injury to the chest, CiberCuba has been unable to independently confirm the exact sequence of events or what triggered the attack.
The page NiO Reporting a Crime later presented the case as a homicide and identified both Javier and a man labeled as the alleged perpetrator. The page itself warned, however, that the identity of the alleged perpetrator and all the details of the incident had not been independently verified.
At the moment, it is unclear what happened immediately before the stabbing, whether there was an argument between them, or what the motive for the attack might have been. There has also been no confirmed information regarding the arrest of the person accused on social media or about a police investigation.
While those questions linger, the posts from people who knew Javier offer a glimpse into the human dimension of the tragedy.
"What sadness, my God, a child who still had so much to live for. Rest in peace, Boty," wrote Daimarelis García Ortiz.
Leyanis Yaité, who claimed to have been a neighbor of Javier, recalled the closeness she had with the teenager: “He was my little neighbor; he was always at my house.” In other remarks, she described him as someone she loved “like a son.”
Requests for justice also multiplied. A post from Revolico Guamo Viejo publicly identified the teenager and spread the hashtag #JusticeForJavi, while other users demanded that the person responsible for his death face justice.
"Justice for having murdered a minor," wrote a user, while others expressed dismay over the victim's age.
The case also sparked criticism regarding the violence in the municipality. "How much longer will the violence continue?" questioned one of the users who reacted to the news.
So far, no official version has emerged from the Cuban authorities that clarifies the circumstances surrounding Javier's death, leaving key issues unresolved, such as the motive for the crime, the sequence of events leading to the attack, and the legal status of the alleged perpetrator.
