Units from the Miami-Dade Fire Department responded this Friday to an emergency at the Dolphin Mall in western Miami after receiving reports of a strong gas odor inside the shopping center, which led to the preventive evacuation of a section of the facility.
Authorities clarified that it was not a total evacuation of the mall, but rather a precautionary measure focused on the affected area.
The firefighters reported that the situation was brought under control as soon as the first units arrived on the scene.
"The situation is under control thanks to the first units that arrived. The gas company has been notified, and the units remain on-site to mitigate the situation," emergency teams reported.
Technicians from the gas company were summoned immediately and arrived on site to work alongside the firefighters in identifying and controlling the possible leak.
Images captured at the scene show emergency vehicles with flashing lights and personnel wearing yellow reflective vests in the vicinity of a Ross Dress for Less store, in the area identified as "3A" of the mall's parking lot.
No injuries or casualties were reported in connection with the incident.
The Dolphin Mall, located at 11401 NW 12th St, is the largest outlet mall in South Florida, featuring over 240 stores, and it is a popular destination for the Hispanic and Cuban community of Miami-Dade.
The incident this Friday adds to a series of emergencies that have affected the facility in recent months. In April, a bomb threat forced a police inspection at the mall; authorities declared it safe and reopened it before 11:00 in the morning. In March, a thwarted robbery by a customer also grabbed public attention.
The most severe gas leak incident in a shopping center in the area occurred in May 2025, when an explosion due to an apparent propane gas leak in Florida City left ten injured, two of them in critical condition, with more than 27 units from the Miami-Dade Fire Department deployed to the scene.
Fire units remained at Dolphin Mall at the close of this information, while the gas company continued to work to determine the source and extent of the possible leak.
