They prevent the sterilization equipment from catching fire at Materno América Arias Hospital in Havana

The firefighters' prompt action prevented a sterilization unit from the América Arias Maternal Hospital in Havana from after experiencing overheating on the second floor of the facility.

The incident was reported by Roilán Rodríguez Barbán, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality, who noted that the intervention allowed for ventilation of the area and prevented the smoke from spreading to other parts of the hospital.

The swift action of our firefighters prevented the sterilization equipment from catching fire on the second floor of the 'América Arias' Maternal Hospital, successfully ensuring timely ventilation of the area and stopping the spread of smoke due to overheating," wrote Rodríguez Barbán.

The official also reported that authorities from the Plaza de la Revolución Defense Council and the La Rampa area promptly arrived at the health center.

The publication does not specify what caused the overheating nor does it report any damage to the equipment. It also does not mention any injuries, evacuations, or impacts on the hospital's services, suggesting that the incident was contained without major consequences.

This incident occurs just over a week after a fire affected areas of the Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Clinical Surgical Hospital in Santa Clara.

The fire was extinguished before it spread to other areas of the center, and no fatalities or injuries were reported.

Another incident related specifically to sterilization equipment occurred in August in Camagüey, when a drying oven at the Sterilization Center of the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital caught fire.

According to the report released at the time, the thermostat did not stop the operation of the equipment, and the flames had to be initially fought with dirt due to the lack of a nearby fire extinguisher.

In that incident, no human injuries were reported, although smoke and a false seismic alarm received simultaneously on mobile phones caused moments of confusion among workers and people present in the hospital.
