The Cuban singer Haydée Milanés expressed her support this Thursday for Anna Sofía Benítez Silvente, known as Anna Bensi, and her mother, Caridad Silvente, coinciding with the trial both are facing in Havana.
In a message posted on her Facebook profile, Milanés expressed her solidarity with the mother and daughter, describing the judicial process as a "pointless trial."
"I offer my full support to Anna Bensi and her mother, who today will face a senseless trial, all for having stood by their principles and peacefully denounced the terrible and unsustainable reality experienced by the Cuban people," wrote the artist.
Milanés concluded his message with an expression of hope for the future of the island: “Justice will come to our land. I have faith.”
The singer's statement adds to the numerous public displays of support that Bensi and Silvente have received throughout the day.
Also this Thursday, Dianelys Alfonso Cartaya, artistically known as La Diosa, urged Cubans on the island not to leave the young woman alone during the process.
"Don't leave her alone. She is speaking for you and your family.", the singer stated.
Solidarity was also evident in the surroundings of the court.
The religious Sister Nadieska Almeida and the priest Lester Rafael Zayas Díaz were among the dozens of people who came to support the mother and daughter, along with activists, friends, and members of religious communities.
The day was also marked by reports of surveillance, movement restrictions, and detentions of individuals attempting to attend the court.
Anna Bensi arrived with her mother to applause from those who managed to get close to the location, and she reported that patrols, uniformed police, and plainclothes officers had been monitoring them since they left their home and throughout their journey to the courthouse.
The trial against Bensi and Silvente is related to the publication on social media of a video featuring an agent from the Ministry of the Interior who had come to their home to deliver a summons from State Security.
Both are accused of “acts against personal and family privacy”.
