is experiencing a moderate decline in the two main reference currencies early this Tuesday.
At 10:00 a.m. (Cuban local time), the US dollar and the euro begin the day with slight declines compared to the previous day, while the MLC, with a low trading volume, provides a reference figure that should be viewed with caution.
Summary of rates from Tuesday, October 6, 2026
- Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 770 CUP.
- Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 870 CUP.
- Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 582 CUP.
The dollar is down, but it maintains ground gained over the week
The US dollar is trading today at 770 Cuban pesos (CUP) on the informal market, with a buying rate of around 760 CUP and a selling rate of about 780 CUP.
This represents a drop of three pesos compared to the previous session, when the average value was set at 773 CUP.
Despite this temporary setback, the U.S. dollar has gained a total of 22 pesos in the weekly balance — a week ago it was trading at 748 CUP — which corresponds to an approximate increase of 3%.
Exchange Rate Evolution
In the monthly balance, the dollar has risen by 87 pesos from 683 CUP 30 days ago, although this comparison may partly reflect adjustments in the methodology of the index rather than just market movements.
In the last 30 days, the currency has fluctuated between a low of 683 CUP and a high of 785 CUP.
The euro is losing ground, but it remains the most expensive currency
The euro opens this Tuesday at around 870 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying range of 850 CUP and a selling range of 890 CUP.
Regarding the previous session, the European currency has decreased by five pesos from the 875 CUP recorded yesterday, reflecting a drop of 0.6%.
In the weekly balance, however, the euro gains 18 pesos compared to the 852 CUP from seven days ago, marking an increase of 2.1%.
On a monthly horizon, the European currency has increased by 95 pesos from 775 CUP thirty days ago, a fact that, as in the case of the dollar, should be interpreted with caution due to possible methodological adjustments.
The range of the European currency over the last 30 days has fluctuated between a minimum of 775 CUP and a maximum of 885 CUP.
It is stated as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 100 pesos on average.
The MLC is rising, but with sparse data
The MLC today offers an indicative value of 582 Cuban pesos (CUP), according to the most recent update of the Exchange Rate from CiberCuba.
Compared to the 562 CUP from the previous session, the current value represents an increase of 20 pesos, equivalent to an approximate rise of 3.6%.
However, this figure should be taken with caution due to the limited volume of data available for the MLC, as its value may experience significant fluctuations throughout the day.
In the weekly balance, it rises by 74 pesos from the 508 CUP recorded seven days ago. As it is not available in cash, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept payments in MLC, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.
The gap with the official rate, an abyss that remains unbridged
The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), set at 695 CUP per dollar and 783 CUP per euro according to the data valid as of October 5, 2026, remains well below the values that apply in everyday practice in the informal currency market.
The difference between the official rate and the informal rate is 75 pesos for the dollar and 87 pesos for the euro.
Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far removed from that of the informal market and fails to meet the real demand for foreign currency among the population.
In the last month, the official exchange rate for the dollar increased from 640 to 695 CUP, and for the euro from 744 to 783 CUP, a correction that, however, has not managed to close the gap with the parallel market.
