A man, identified by the initials MHL, was arrested in Cárdenas, Matanzas, as the alleged perpetrator of the shooting death of a woman that took place in Merceditas, according to a report released this Tuesday.

The official profile Con Todos La Victoria, spokesperson for the MININT, identifies the victim as a 58-year-old woman and states that the incident occurred following a personal conflict.

According to that version, the detained individual allegedly fired a shot with a .38 caliber revolver at the woman, who was the mother of his partner.

The profile also states that three other individuals suffered minor injuries while attempting to intervene during the incident.

"His wife, daughter, and son-in-law, who tried to stop him, also suffered minor injuries from the weapon's handle," the spokesperson said.

All of them would have received medical attention at the Julio Manuel Aristegui Villamil Municipal Hospital, with no major complications reported, according to that source.

The publication states that the man was arrested and will be brought before the court, but it does not specify what charges are being brought against him, whether there is already a formal accusation, or what his procedural status is.

The new version also presents differences compared to the previously known information about how the man came into custody.

The initial report on the case noted that the Alas Tensas Gender Observatory (OGAT) stated that the alleged aggressor surrendered to the police on the same day, while another version circulated by communicator Christian Arbolaez claimed that he was later located by a family member and handed over to the authorities.

With Everyone, the Victory, on the other hand, now states that he was “immediately detained”.

The victim was previously identified as NDS. According to OGAT, she died on October 2 while trying to protect her daughter during an episode of violence attributed to her ex-partner. The observatory gathered the information from family and community sources.

OGAT classified the death of the woman as the 57th feminicide recorded in Cuba during 2026, as of October 5. The observatory also recorded 27 attempts of feminicide and two murders of men in contexts of feminicide-related violence.

The figure represents a new increase compared to the beginning of October, when the recorded number had reached 56 verified femicides. By that time, the total had already surpassed the cases documented throughout all of 2025.
