At 8:00 PM, local Cuban time, the closes this Thursday, October 8, 2026, with a day marked by the simultaneous rise of the dollar and the euro.
The US dollar ends the day at 775 Cuban pesos (CUP), while the euro rises to 867 CUP.
The MLC, for its part, shows a decline, although its data is limited during this time period and should be considered as indicative.
The United States dollar (USD)
The U.S. dollar is trading at 775 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this Thursday. This represents an increase of 7.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 768 CUP. Over the last week, the currency has risen by 5 pesos from the 770 CUP of seven days ago, which indicates a rise of 0.6%.
In the last month, the dollar has risen 90 pesos from the 685 CUP recorded 30 days ago, an increase of 13.1%, although this comparison may partly reflect adjustments in the index methodology. Over the past 30 days, the greenback has fluctuated between a low of 686 CUP and a high of 785 CUP. It continues to set the pace of the informal market in a context of structural currency shortages.
The euro (EUR)
The euro is quoted at 867 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of the trading day. This represents an increase of 7 pesos compared to the previous session, when it was at 860 CUP. In weekly terms, the European currency has slightly declined: seven days ago it was exchanged at 870 CUP, indicating a drop of 3 pesos (-0.3%).
In the monthly outlook, the euro has gained 89.5 pesos since the 778 CUP of 30 days ago, an increase of 11.5%. However, this variation should be interpreted cautiously as it may incorporate methodological adjustments. Over the last month, the euro has reached a low of 777 CUP and a high of 885 CUP. It stands as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 92 pesos.
The MLC
The MLC closes this Thursday with an indicative average value of 577 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a buying rate of 498 CUP and a selling rate of 655 CUP. This represents a decline of 21.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it stood at 598 CUP. The available data for this range is limited, so the figure should be taken with caution.
In the last month, the MLC has fluctuated between a low of 446 CUP and a high of 603 CUP. With no physical existence, its usage is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.
- Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 775 CUP.
- Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 867 CUP.
- Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 577 CUP (indicative value, limited data).
The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 698 CUP per dollar and 781 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.
Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains very distant from that of the informal market and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency from the population. The gap between the official and informal rates for the dollar exceeds 77 pesos as of the close of this Thursday.
The gap between the official and informal exchange rates reflects the ongoing shortage of foreign currency in the state banking system and the high demand for dollars and euros among the population, whether for emigration, importing goods, protecting savings, or making purchases in the private sector.
In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, every fluctuation in the informal market directly impacts internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.
The CiberCuba Exchange Rate is an index of the informal Cuban market created from the automated analysis of thousands of currency trading posts in Telegram and Facebook groups; the calculation disregards atypical offers and spam messages, weights each transaction based on its recency, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
