Two minors in Miami-Dade alerted their relatives that they had gone days without receiving food and were locked in their rooms, a report that led to the arrest of their father, accused of child neglect.
The detainee was identified as Wendy Louis, 40 years old, who was arrested on Tuesday by agents of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office after a welfare check revealed the conditions in which he allegedly kept his children.
According to the police report cited by NBC6 South Florida, Louis allegedly left the children unfed because he believed the government was "putting things in the food."
The minors told investigators that they spent days without receiving food, that they could only drink water from the shower, and that they remained locked in their rooms, where they had to use a bucket for their needs because they were not allowed to access the bathroom.
The agents described both children as extremely small and thin for their age, with unkempt and tangled hair, according to Local 10.
The authorities have not disclosed the ages of the minors.
According to the police report, the minors had not been attending school since August 2025, when their father withdrew them from classes. They were also not receiving home education.
Louis refused to answer the agents' questions during the investigation, according to the police report.
The man was transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was detained on two charges of child neglect without serious bodily injury.
Records also indicated that he had an outstanding arrest warrant related to previous charges of domestic violence and resisting an officer without violence.
This Wednesday, during his court appearance, a judge set bail at $5,000 and ordered him to stay away from his children, according to NBC6.
