A Cuban mother living in Hialeah, Florida, reported receiving death threats from her daughter’s boyfriend, an 18-year-old who was arrested on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The case, reported by Univision, began with a text message sent to Esther Calzadilla Quintero on Saturday, October 10, at 8:41 PM.
The sender was Cristopher Luis Martínez Paumier, 18 years old, and the boyfriend of her daughter.
"Go ahead and look for Donald Trump if you want. Before they deport me, I'll kill her," the message said.
"Of course I was afraid, for my life and that of my family," Calzadilla declared to Univision.
The woman explained that the threats affected her peace of mind and that of her daughter, who has an autism diagnosis.
"I couldn't even sleep, honestly, I couldn't even sleep. I lived in fear for my life and my daughter's, because my daughter has a diagnosis, she is autistic, but she is also afraid, she is afraid of him, he would come to bother her at all times," she recounted.
Calzadilla, who identified herself as a U.S. citizen, expressed that she feared for her safety even within her own home.
"I am an American citizen of this country, I cannot live in fear and with the insecurity that when I go out to the balcony, someone wants to kill me," she stated.
The conflict and the threats
According to the police report cited by Univision, the conflict dates back to September, when Calzadilla, concerned about alleged incidents of domestic violence involving her daughter and the young man, contacted Martínez Paumier's parents.
The woman warned them that she would go to immigration authorities if the situation continued.
"I spoke with the parents on several occasions, and they didn't do anything. They disrespected me and told me they were going to sue me," she recounted.
During the police interrogation, Martínez Paumier acknowledged sending the message and admitted that he wanted Calzadilla to receive it, in response to his warning to contact the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The complainant stated that the young man's intimidating behaviors had begun before she mentioned the immigration authorities.
Arrest and judicial situation
The Hialeah Police arrested Martínez Paumier early in the morning on Wednesday, October 14.
The young man is facing charges for written threats to kill or cause bodily harm, in accordance with Florida Statute 836.10(1), a second-degree felony that can result in a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
A judge set bail at $5,000 and prohibited him from contacting the complainant.
The prison record also indicated an immigration hold by ICE.
The accused's parents, residents of Hialeah, confirmed off-camera the threats made by their son but declined to make public statements and indicated that they were seeking a lawyer.
Martínez Paumier and his family arrived in the United States through the humanitarian parole program, and according to information published by Univision, they were awaiting permanent residency when the events occurred.
