Aena announced this Wednesday the tender for a contract to renovate the infrastructure of the Valencia-Manises Airport, which includes night closures of the runway during the more extensive work scheduled between May 2027 and July 2029.

The project, valued at over 41 million euros, includes three actions: the comprehensive renovation of runway 12-30, the upgrading of several taxiways, and the improvement of the perimeter road.

The estimated duration of the works is 27 months, although as of this date the contract is in the bidding phase and has not yet been awarded.

To carry out the works that directly affect flight infrastructure, Aena plans to restrict the use of the runway from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

The airport will not necessarily close every night during the period: the restrictions will only be applied when the construction phases require it.

According to the official statement, "both airlines and the various companies providing services at the airport will receive accurate information about the planning of the works in advance so they can reschedule their operations at alternative airports and reorganize their activities."

Aena emphasized that the closures will be managed "in a coordinated manner and in collaboration with all parties involved in the airport operations." A night-by-night schedule of the restrictions has not been published.

The most significant action is the renovation of the runway pavement and its edges, including the correction of slopes and leveling work.

The project also includes the modernization of the support lighting system for pilots—known as PAPI—using LED technology, as well as the adaptation of conduits and drainage networks.

The bidding process also includes improvements to the configuration of several taxiways to enhance operational efficiency, the renewal of signage and aeronautical signs, the reinforcement of the electrical installations for lighting, and the rehabilitation of the perimeter road with new segments of roadway.

For those with flights scheduled in Valencia during that period, the most relevant alternative airports are Alicante-Elche (ALC) and Madrid-Barajas (MAD).

In the current programming, the Valencia airport operates night flights to destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Rome, Tenerife, Milan, and Ibiza between 10:00 PM and midnight, with early departures around 5:00 AM, time slots that could be affected during certain phases of the construction.

The works are part of the investment program DORA III (2027-2031), approved by the Government of Spain in September 2026, which allocates 402.1 million euros to Valencia Airport, compared to the 60.1 million from the previous regulatory period.

In the Valencian Community as a whole, the planned investment exceeds 1.27 billion, with nearly 868 million allocated to the Alicante-Elche airport.

Aena has specified that it will inform the detailed schedule of closures to the airlines and service companies with sufficient notice so they can reorganize their operations before the work begins in May 2027.
