At 8:00 PM, Cuban local time, the informal currency market in Cuba closes the day on Thursday, October 22, 2026, with the dollar and euro rising compared to the previous session.

places the greenback at 827 Cuban pesos, the euro strengthens at 915 CUP, and the MLC, with limited available data, provides a tentative value of 676 pesos that should be approached with caution.

The U.S. dollar is valued at 827 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the close of this trading day. This represents an increase of 4 pesos compared to the previous day, when the average value was 823 CUP.

In the weekly perspective, the greenback has risen by 29 pesos compared to the 798 CUP recorded seven days ago, which represents a 3.6% increase.

The pressure on the Cuban peso becomes even more apparent on the monthly horizon: 30 days ago, the dollar was starting at 720 pesos, which represents an increase of more than 107 pesos in a month, although it is worth noting that part of this variation may reflect methodological adjustments of the index.

Exchange Rate Evolution

The dollar thus reaches its highest level in the last 30 days and continues to set the pace for the informal market in a context of structural currency shortages.

The euro is valued at 915 Cuban pesos (CUP), indicating an increase of 3.5 pesos compared to the previous day, when it closed at 912 CUP. In the past week, the European currency has gained 20 pesos from the 895 CUP of seven days ago, reflecting a 2.2% rise.

Thirty days ago, the euro was exchanged for 823 pesos, reflecting an appreciation of 92 pesos over the period, although part of this movement may be due to methodological adjustments of the index. It surpasses the dollar by 88 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC provides an indicative average value of 676 Cuban pesos (CUP), although the available data during this time period is scarce and not very representative, so this figure should be taken with caution.

Regarding the previous session, the average value has decreased by 57.5 pesos, although this variation may be influenced by the low number of recorded transactions. Without physical existence, its use is limited to state stores that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 827 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 915 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 676 CUP (indicative value, limited data).

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 734 CUP per dollar and 824 CUP per euro, remains well below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market. The gap between the two markets exceeds 90 pesos for the dollar and approaches 91 pesos for the euro.

Although Segment III was introduced as a more flexible exchange mechanism, its official rate remains far from that of the informal market and fails to meet the real demand for foreign currency from the population.

In the last month, the official exchange rate of the dollar rose from 670 to 734 CUP, and that of the euro increased from 768 to 824 CUP, a adjustment that, however, has not managed to close the gap with the parallel market.

In a scenario of sustained inflation, low state wages, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, any fluctuation in the informal market directly affects internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

The cumulative increase of the dollar in recent weeks —more than 100 pesos in the past month— worsens the living conditions of those who depend on the Cuban peso for their daily expenses.

The Exchange Rate of CiberCuba is an index of the informal Cuban market created through the automated analysis of thousands of currency buying and selling posts in Telegram and Facebook groups.

The calculation excludes atypical offers and spam messages, weighs each transaction based on its age, and consolidates a representative value that is updated several times a day.
