Dollar, euro, and MLC: here's how the exchange rates open this Thursday
The U.S. dollar is quoted at 858 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, according to the average value recorded at the opening.
This represents an increase of eight pesos compared to the previous day, when the currency closed at 850 CUP.
The euro starts the day at 945 Cuban pesos (CUP), compared to the 936 CUP it registered in the previous session.
Exchange Rate Evolution
The increase of the European currency is nine pesos in a single day. It exceeds the dollar by 87 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban black market.
The MLC is trading around 724 Cuban pesos (CUP), with a value that should be considered as indicative due to the limited volume of transactions recorded during this time period.
Regarding the previous session, the difference is an increase of 146.5 pesos, although this variation should be interpreted with caution.
As it is an electronic balance, its use is limited to state-run businesses that accept it, which restricts its circulation compared to cash currencies.
Weekly and monthly comparison
In the last week, the dollar has risen by 35 pesos, which is an increase of 4.3% compared to the 823 CUP it was at seven days ago.
The euro, for its part, has climbed 32 pesos in the same period, from 913 CUP a week ago to the current 945, representing an increase of 3.5%.
The 30-day perspective further expands the magnitude of the movement, although it is worth noting that this comparison may partly reflect adjustments in the index methodology rather than solely market movements.
With that caution, the dollar has risen by 110 pesos from 748 CUP a month ago, an increase of 14.7%.
The euro has increased by 93 pesos in the same period, rising from 852 CUP to the current 945, which is an increase of 10.9%.
The MLC, in indicative terms, has accumulated a variation of 216 pesos over 30 days.
Peaks of the period and market context

The MLC has fluctuated between a minimum of 457 CUP and a maximum of 742 CUP in the last 30 days, based on the available data.
Its current value of 724 CUP remains below that maximum, although it should be interpreted with caution due to the low volume of transactions.
Gap between the informal market and the official rate
