The West Palm Beach Housing Authority (WPBHA) will close on Monday, November 2nd at 11:30 p.m. the application period for the waiting list for their Sabal Palm public housing development program.

Sabal Palm Place is a newly built complex managed by administration, located at 1860 North Tamarind Avenue, offering one, two, and three-bedroom apartments for low-income families.

The call for applications opened on Monday, October 26 at 8:00 a.m., and as this note is being published this Sunday, there is less than a day left before the deadline.

The entire process is exclusively online through the portal wpbha.org, where you should select the option "APPLY NOW." The WPBHA advises that in-person applications are not accepted at their offices, and only one application per family is allowed; submitting multiple applications will cancel the process.

Before starting the application, each household must gather the following information for all its members: full legal names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, residential address including city and ZIP code, a phone number, and the total annual gross income of the household.

It is important to understand that signing up on the list does not guarantee immediate housing, a date of allocation, or final approval.

The WPBHA open waiting list page confirms that, once placed on the list, the authority will reach out when appropriate, without any guarantee of timing or final outcome.

According to WPBHA itself, applications are processed based on the requested bedroom size, applicable preferences, and a random lottery that determines the order of service. The authority contacts the applicant when their name reaches the corresponding turn.

Those remaining on the list must keep their contact information updated. Any changes in address or telephone number must be reported in writing, accompanied by the Social Security number and a copy of a photo identification. Changes are not accepted over the phone, and if a notification from the WPBHA is returned undelivered, the name may be removed from the list.

For individuals with disabilities, physical impairments, or hearing difficulties who need assistance completing the application, WPBHA recommends calling 561-659-9455. The general contact number for the authority is 561-655-8530.

The housing crisis in South Florida makes these calls highly sought after. In the metropolitan area of West Palm Beach, the seat of Palm Beach County, the average rent hovers around $2,605 per month, intensifying the pressure on affordable housing options.

In recent weeks, other authorities in the region have also opened or announced similar waiting lists in Hollywood and Miami Beach for the Stella Maris development, distinct and independent calls.
