The Provincial People's Court of Ciego de Ávila imposed a sentence of life imprisonment for a murder that took place in the municipality of Florencia.

The case is related to the death of a woman and her partner, who were attacked in a home in that locality in August 2025.

The sentence was announced this Tuesday by the Provincial People's Tribunal of Ciego de Ávila on its official Facebook page, where it specified that the First Chamber of Criminal Matters, after holding an oral and public trial corresponding to case number 84 of 2026, sentenced the accused for the crime of murder.

The brief court statement did not reveal the identity of the convicted individual, the names of the victims, nor the circumstances in which the events occurred.

However, this Wednesday, Luis Alberto Medina Vega, a Facebook profile sympathetic to the Cuban regime that often spreads information about police operations in Ciego de Ávila, identified the convicted individual as Adrián Cruz Díaz.

According to their publication, Cruz was found guilty of the double murder of his ex-partner, Marialina García Borroto, and Abel Morales Castro, her romantic partner, which took place in 2025 in the municipality of Florencia.

Medina described the incident as a crime of passion and stated that the court considered the evidence presented and the severity of the events before imposing a life sentence.

The information shared by that profile matches the number of the legal case with the statement from the court, although the institution did not publicly confirm the names of the individuals involved in its brief announcement.

The double murder was reported on August 26, 2025, when it became known that a couple had been attacked with a knife inside their home in Florencia, Ciego de Ávila.

According to the information published at that time by CubitaNOW, the victims were identified as María Alina García and Abel Morales.

The reports circulated at that time pointed to the woman's ex-partner as the alleged perpetrator, a man who supposedly had previously served a sentence for murder.

According to those preliminary reports, the attacker broke into the home where the couple was. The woman allegedly tried to escape, but she was caught and assaulted. Afterwards, the man returned to the house and also attacked Morales, who died at the scene.

The information published in August 2025 indicated that the alleged perpetrator was at large and that authorities were working to locate him.

The sentence is known just a few days after another Cuban court sentenced Guillermo Sánchez Gutiérrez to life in prison for the murder of an auxiliary officer of the Revolutionary National Police in Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba.

The events of that case took place in July 2025, when the accused attacked the victim with a knife. The court considered the existence of an aggravating circumstance related to revenge or retaliation, which influenced the imposition of a sentence of life imprisonment.
