The Republican Byron Donalds, elected this Tuesday as the new governor of Florida, sent a direct message to President Donald Trump during his victory speech: "Mr. President, I want you to hear from Florida that we remain red."

The phrase, pronounced amid applause and cheers, referred to the Republican victory that occurred in a contest that was more closely contested than expected, in which Donalds narrowly defeated his Democratic opponent, David Jolly

The elected governor also publicly thanked Trump for his support, one of his main political allies.

"Mr. President, I also want to thank you for your support and for standing by my side," he expressed.

But Donalds did not limit himself to celebrating his victory. In front of his supporters, he made a series of promises addressing the economic concerns of thousands of families in Florida: to reduce insurance premiums, ease access to housing, and alleviate the cost of living.

"We will reduce costs for the residents of this state. We will lower insurance premiums and make housing more affordable," he stated.

Gratitude to DeSantis and new promises for Florida

The Republican also offered words of recognition to the outgoing governor, Ron DeSantis, whose administration he praised in front of his supporters.

"Governor DeSantis has done a great job leading Florida over the past eight years," he stated.

Donalds, who will become the first Black governor of Florida, pledged to continue promoting the state's economic growth and set the goal of placing it among the ten largest economies in the world.

It also announced that it will protect agricultural land, water resources, and the environment, support law enforcement, and defend parents' rights regarding the education of their children.

"The children of Florida belong to their parents, not to the Government," she declared.

At another point in his speech, he assured that he would not tolerate any form of intolerance, including anti-Semitism, and promised to govern for all residents, even for those who did not support him at the polls.

"Even if they didn't vote for me, I give you my word that I will also be your governor," he stated.

With his victory, the Cuban-American Bryan Ávila, a state senator born in Hialeah and the son of Cuban emigrants, will become the lieutenant governor of Florida.

Donalds thanked his campaign team for their work, which, he stated, knocked on over two million doors, covered all the counties in the state, and visited 50 cities in just 13 days.

At the end of his remarks, he conveyed a message about the beginning of his administration.

"Tonight we celebrate. Tomorrow we work."
