Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar has declared herself the winner of the , despite the fact that the tally continues to show a very narrow margin against the Cuban-American Democrat Eliott Rodríguez, and the media specialized in electoral projections have yet to declare a winner.
«Tonight, the voters of District 27 in Florida have spoken! I feel deeply honored and grateful for having received your trust once again,» Salazar stated in a message posted on her X account.
"We have triumphed because we believe in something much greater than politics: the American Dream, the freedoms that make this nation great, and a better future for our families," he stated.
He also promised to continue working for his constituents and stated that representing them in Congress has been "the greatest honor" of his life.
"And we still have a lot to do!" he/she concluded.
What do the election results indicate?
According to the latest count from Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ), updated at 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, Salazar had received 123,838 votes (50.27%), compared to 122,513 (49.73%) for Rodríguez.
The difference was just 1,325 votes, with over 95% of the estimated votes reported.
Despite the Republican's lead, DDHQ had not yet declared a winner, nor had a victory projection from the Associated Press been verified.
For its part, Rodríguez's campaign urged caution given the narrowness of the result.
"This is an extraordinarily competitive election, and no definitive results should be declared until the outcomes are clear," stated strategist Fernand Amandi, as reported by the public media WLRN.
The contest features two well-known former television presenters of Cuban origin, in an election that has captured the attention of Miami.
Salazar, who has held her seat since January 2021, is seeking a fourth term in the United States House of Representatives.
The contest remains under close attention due to its narrow margin, as media outlets like the Miami Herald point to the possibility of a vote recount, although there is still no official confirmation of that procedure.
