Edith Massola is a Cuban actress and presenter born on September 7, 1967, in Havana.
She studied dance. The first time she was seen in the Cuban artistic world was in the film "Una novia para David," where she played Olga, the girl whose heart David breaks for Ofelia. This role was also contested by Jackeline Arenal. After this character, she began to appear on the Cuban scene, both in theater and television. Edith's ability to transform allows her to embody very different characters, in dramatized programs—so popular on Cuban television—as well as on the big screen. One example of these dramatized shows that we all remember is "El año que viene," as the phrase that gave life to her character: "Dime algo, Fernández," was on the lips of all Cubans for a long time. Films such as "Nada," "El cuerno de la abundancia," and "La noche de los inocentes" solidify her career in the seventh art and showcase the range of possibilities this artist possesses.
In 1998, after Carlos Otero, the original host of 23 y M, decided to leave the project, Massola began hosting the show for which she is best known in Cuba. She is currently the director of the popular music magazine that has been on air for over 20 years, showcasing the current Cuban cultural landscape and serving as a connection for those who appreciate music, cinema, theater, and other Cuban arts. She started this segment under the direction of Julio César Leal. Just like the dramatizations that are so beloved by Cubans, Edith has coined her own phrase that distinguishes the television program: "Dónde si no."
In 2015, Carlucho, host of the show El Happy Hour on Canal 41, América Tevé, produced by Julio César Leal, the director of 23 y M, took a vacation and suggested that Massola replace him. Massola traveled to Miami for this purpose and reunited with familiar colleagues in the profession who were based in Miami. She confessed to feeling very comfortable with this job. The audience ratings of the program increased during those 10 broadcasts.
In 2018, he received the Special Award presented by the Lucas Awards in Havana for his entertainment program 23 y M, which reached its 20th anniversary and was one of the audience's favorites nationwide.
In October 2019, she was targeted by criticism from a government-affiliated journalist who reproached her for using the television program 23 y M to receive birthday greetings through Facebook. A few days later, the popular host was awarded the Pantalla Chica Award as an actress, presenter, and director by the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT) as part of the activities celebrating the 69th anniversary of Cuban television.
In the theater, he has been seen in Las viejas putas by Juan Carlos Cremata. Massola, with a special comedic flair, was the endearing Maritrini from Sabadazo, and the witty secretary of Albertico Pujol in "Su respuesta, doctor."
In May 2020, Pablo Milanés released a new version of his hit "Ámame como soy," featuring young singers Cristian Alejandro and Lucía González De la Peña. The music video included appearances by Edith Massola and the popular actress residing in Spain, María Isabel Díaz.
