The Cuban actress and presenter Edith Massola broke her silence about the death of her cousin, the actor Carlos Massola, with a brief message on her social media.
"Enough horrors," wrote Edith on her Instagram account in response to an internet user who asked her if she wasn't going to say anything about Carlos, who passed away on July 3rd.
The enigmatic phrase, written 10 days later and accompanied by two emoticons, one of a face with a closed zipper mouth and the other of a smiling face with sunglasses, is striking.
Edith Massola has been the target of numerous criticisms on social media for not offering condolences for the passing of her cousin.
The independent media outlet La Tijera published a screenshot from the artist's Instagram account, on the same day that Massola passed away.
Edith Massola was showing the indifference and contempt she felt for this person, when instead of dedicating a note of love and respect for his departure, she was actually worried about the loss of musician Maykel Blanco's wallet and published it on her wall, with the emoji of two hands together in a praying gesture," denounced La Tijera.
That day and the following ones, the host from 23 y M was posting photos and videos from Spain, where she was seen happy recording her show with the choreographer and director Liz Alfonso.
Her attitude did not go unnoticed by many Cubans, including some followers, who criticized her silence as a lack of sensitivity, an incomprehensible attitude even if she and Carlos had political or other differences.
"The issue was that his cousin didn't have any dollars; if he had handled a good amount of cash, she would have been having seizures next to the deceased," said a man.
There can be many differences of opinions, but blood ties are unbreakable, and besides being family, that's a human being," expressed an elderly woman.
"He should have taken a break in his schedule, almost all Cubans and artists did so, dedicating a few minutes of respect and feelings to the deceased actor. With this attitude, he only shows his lack of empathy and feelings not only as a family member but also as part of the artistic community of his generation," a doctor pointed out.
Last October, Carlos Massola revealed that he was estranged from his cousin, the regime's star presenter, Edith Massola.
"She doesn't take care of me. I call her cell phone and she doesn't answer. And I love her, she's my cousin, but she doesn't want anything to do with me," the actor said.
At that moment, the performer speculated that she might be afraid to talk to him because of his political position. "It seems like she is scared. She is afraid to reach out to me," he pointed out.
In recent years, Massola was censored by the regime for the opinions about the situation in Cuba that he published on the Internet, where he openly called for a change of system, the release of political prisoners, and the resignation of leaders.
His cousin is on the opposite side of the world, and she loves to act as an extra of the regime, serving as a host of their events and working hand in hand with Lis Cuesta Peraza.
