Proud Boys is a far-right nationalist organization, founded in the United States in 2016, under the leadership of former commentator Gavin McInnes. Since late 2018, it has been led by Cuban-American businessman Enrique Tarrio. It is estimated that around 45,000 individuals are affiliated with the organization in the United States and Canada.
The organization led protests and confronted supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement in the streets, serving as a stronghold in favor of Donald Trump's re-election and supporting his claims of electoral fraud in 2020.
Members of the organization were involved in the assault on the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021, and several have been charged for that violent action. In February 2021, the Canadian government designated them as a terrorist group.
