Note:
Buñuelos are a recipe that we inherit from Spanish cuisine, but that we Cubans have adapted to the ingredients of our Island. They are a typical dessert during the Christmas celebrations in many countries. It is believed that the number 8 or the infinity symbol formed with the dough is not just a pretty shape, but also a message of good luck for the coming year.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb of cassava
- 1 lb of malanga
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of anise
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ cup flour
- oil for frying
- 2 cups of white sugar
- 1 cup of water
- ¼ teaspoon of lemon juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
Thread point syrup:
Instructions:
Peel the root vegetables and cook them in boiling water without letting them soften too much. Pass them through the finest blade of a grinder, then knead them with the beaten egg, anise, salt, and flour until the mixture no longer sticks to your fingers. Shape them into an eight and fry them in hot oil. Serve with a thread-like syrup.
