Note:
Guava pastries are among the favorite desserts of Cubans. They can be served as a snack, breakfast, dessert, or to accompany coffee, a shake, or whatever else. They are difficult to make because they require skill with puff pastry, but nowadays you can find this dough in many supermarkets, outside of Cuba, of course. Check out our recipe, which has very few ingredients.
Ingredients:
  • 520 grams of puff pastry
  • guava paste in bar form
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
Instructions:

For this recipe, we will use ready-made puff pastry. If you wish to make your own dough, I recommend visiting MarĂa Lunarillos' blog. This chef presents a very detailed recipe with all the steps.

Select the puff pastry from your preferred brand at a market. It will be ready to bake. Usually, the dough comes divided into two parts, both on parchment paper to place directly on the baking tray.

Spread the first half with parchment paper on your baking tray. Place uniform pieces of guava candy on top in an orderly fashion. They should maintain the same distance from each other so that they are centered in what will later be your pastelito. Take a look at the photo and adjust the amount of guava according to your taste.

Preheat the oven to 200ÂșC.

Carefully roll out the second part of the dough over the one prepared with the guava paste in the tray. Cover it and shape the cake.

Using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut the dough, trying to move it as little as possible. This way, when the cakes are done baking, it will be easy to divide them. Use a kitchen brush to spread butter on them.

Bake at 200ÂșC until golden and crispy. The time will depend on the specific characteristics of each oven. Try to ensure that the tray receives heat evenly from both the top and bottom, to avoid browning more on one side than the other.

Take your cakes out of the oven and remember that you should wait a little before eating them because the guava inside stays very hot. Cut them and stay alert because those hot cakes... fly off the shelves in the kitchens!!

Enjoy your meal!!!
