Note:
Guava pastries are among the favorite desserts of Cubans. They can be served as a snack, for breakfast, after a meal, or to accompany coffee, a milkshake, or anything else. They are difficult to make because they require skill with puff pastry, but nowadays you can find this dough in many supermarkets, outside of Cuba, of course. Check out our recipe, which has very few ingredients.
Ingredients:
  • 520 grams of puff pastry
  • guava paste
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
Instructions:

For this recipe, we will use pre-made puff pastry. If you want to make your own dough, I recommend visiting MarĂa Lunarillos' blog. This cook provides a very detailed recipe with all the steps.

Select the puff pastry from your preferred brand in a market. It will be ready to bake. Generally, the dough comes divided into two parts, both on parchment paper to place directly on the baking tray.

Extend the first half with the parchment paper on the tray of your oven. Place uniform pieces of guava paste on top, arranged neatly. They should maintain the same distance from each other, so that they are centered in what will later be your pastry. Take a look at the photo and add more or less guava according to your taste.

Preheat the oven to 200ÂșC.

Carefully spread the second part of the dough over the one prepared with the guava paste in the tray. Cover it and mark the shape of the cake.

With a pizza cutter or a knife, cut the dough trying to move it as little as possible. This way, when the cakes finish baking, it will be easy to divide them. With a kitchen brush, coat them with butter.

Bake at 200ÂșC until they are golden and crispy. The time will depend on the particular characteristics of each oven. Try to ensure that the tray receives heat evenly from both the top and bottom, to avoid browning more on one side than the other.

Take your cakes out of the oven and remember to wait a little before eating them because the guava inside stays very hot. Cut them and stay alert because those hot cakes... fly in the kitchens!!

Enjoy your meal!!!
