Note:
The history of pizza dates back to Ancient Greece, known as the birthplace of flatbreads. However, the pizza as we know it today is believed to have originated in Naples, Italy. Cubans have our own version of pizza, which must meet some essential criteria: 1. Thick and soft crust 2. A crispy, slightly charred edge 3. It should be foldable without the crust breaking 4. Vita Nuova sauce, a sauce with a very unique touch 5. The cheese should ooze when folded. Check out our recipe and don’t forget to share a photo of your pizza with us on our social media!
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour (preferably bread flour, the type used for baking)
  • 2 tablespoons of yeast (please read the instructions for the yeast you are using, as each brand has its own characteristics and is used according to the amount of flour you need for the recipe)
  • 1 ½ cups of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 300 grams of shredded mixed cheese
  • Romero, Provence herbs, cumin, bay leaf, basil, oregano to taste
  • pineapple to taste
  • Cuban Viking ham to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 cup of Vita Nuova sauce (or another sauce of your choice)
Instructions:

Combine the dry ingredients (flour, salt, and sugar). Place them on a clean surface so you can knead the dough. Make a well in the center and add the warm water, in which you should have previously dissolved the yeast. Mix all the components together. You may need to add more flour during this process to achieve the right dough consistency. Knead with your hands until you obtain a uniform mixture that pulls away from the surfaces. Form a ball and let it rest for two hours.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

Knead the dough again and place it in the pizza pan, ready to add your desired toppings.

Add the sauce to your liking, sprinkle with grated cheese, and then add the pineapple and ham

You can also add aromatic herbs from those we suggested among the ingredients.

Bake for approximately 15 minutes covered with aluminum foil, then for 5 minutes uncovered.

We hope you enjoy this recipe.
