Cuban left-hander Raúl Valdés was recognized by his team the Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League. The Cuban displayed his Pitcher of the Year award in 2017, along with infielder Alexi Casilla who was chosen as Position Player of the year.

It will be entertaining to follow the Havana lefty's season in the Dominican Republic again, where he has been pitching for more than five years with the Toros del Este.

"This is a new year, I feel pretty good, thank God, to give everything for the team starting on the 13th," said Valdés upon receiving the trophy.

Valdés, who arrived in the Major Leagues at the age of 32 and pitched for five seasons, is just three wins away (he has 37) from tying with Mickey Mahler as the most successful foreign pitcher in the history of the league.

In 2017, Valdés was selected to participate in the Caribbean Series as a reinforcement of the Águilas Cibaeñas, after completing two games in the regular season and leaving an ERA of 2.74 with the Toros.
