This time it couldn't be. The Cuban group Havana D’ Primera did not win during the 19th edition of the Latin Grammy Awards 2018, which took place at the MGM Grand theater in Las Vegas on the night of November 15.
The orchestra lost the award for Best Salsa Album to the album 25/7 by the Puerto Rican-American salsa singer Víctor Manuelle, who emerged as one of the major winners of the ceremony.
Manuelle not only took home the Latin Grammy for her latest album, but she also won another statue for Best Tropical Song with the track "Quiero tiempo," written by Venezuelan Juan Carlos Luces and performed alongside Dominican bachatero Juan Luis Guerra.
However, even though the performers of Amor en silencio and other nominated Cubans left empty-handed, the gala did provide an opportunity to recognize the talent of the Island.
Cuban singer Aymée Nuviola won her first Latin Grammy in her artistic career, taking home the award for Best Tropical Fusion Album. She triumphed over fellow Cuban Diego Gutiérrez with his album Palante El Mambo!, Dominican Manny Cruz with Sobrenatural, and Puerto Rican Sheila King with Supernova.
Additionally, the Colombian pianist Milton Salcedo won the award for Best Arrangement for the song "Se le ve," performed by the Cuban singer Amaury Gutiérrez.
