Note:
The history of pizza dates back to Ancient Greece, the cradle of flatbreads. However, the pizza as we know it today is believed to originate from Naples, Italy. Cubans have our own version of pizza. It must meet some essential requirements: 1. Thick and soft dough 2. A slightly burnt thin edge 3. It should be foldable without the dough breaking 4. Salsa Vita Nuova, a sauce with a very unique touch 5. The cheese should ooze when folded. Check out our recipe and don't forget to share a photo of your pizza with us on our social media.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups of wheat flour (preferably strong flour, the type used for baking)
  • 2 tablespoons of yeast (read the instructions for the yeast you are going to use, as each brand has its own characteristics and should be used according to the amount of flour you use for the recipe)
  • 1 ½ cups of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 300 grams of shredded mixed cheese
  • Rosemary, Provençal herbs, cumin, bay leaf, basil, oregano to taste
  • pineapple to taste
  • Cuban Viking ham to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 cup of Salsa Vita Nuova (or another of your choice)
Instructions:

Mix the dry ingredients (flour, salt, and sugar). Place them on a clean surface so you can knead. Make a well in the center and add the warm water in which you should have previously dissolved the yeast. Combine all the elements. It is likely that during this process you will need to add more flour to form the dough. Knead with your hands until you achieve a uniform mixture that comes away from the surfaces. Shape it into a ball and let it rest for two hours.

Preheat the oven to 350ºF (180ºC).

Knead again and place the dough in the pizza mold on which you will put the ingredients of your choice.

Put the sauce to your liking, the grated cheese, and add the pineapple and ham.

You can also add aromatic herbs from those we suggest among the ingredients.

Bake for approximately 15 minutes covered with aluminum foil and then 5 minutes uncovered.

We hope you enjoy this recipe.
