Border guard troops belonging to the Ministry of the Interior found two boats on the coasts of Guantánamo and Holguín.

The Guantánamo Port Captaincy announced the discovery of a Yola-type vessel on December 18, 2021 in an area known as Río Jiguaní, in the Nibujón popular council of the Baracoa municipality.

The boat, the type that fishermen usually use, is 6.03 meters long, 2.01 meters wide and 0.50 meters deep. It is black and white, has no name or engine, and its technical condition is poor.

On the other hand, in the province of Holguín, the Port Captaincy of Antilles reported the discovery on December 21 of another speedboat type vessel, without propulsion and with a hull made of fiberglass. It is 6.5 meters long, with a beam of 1.80 meters and a depth of 0.60 meters.

The ship is yellow and its waterline is blue, and on the bow it has a label on both sides with the name La Poly.

It was found in an area known as Punta Peregrino, on the eastern flank of the Gibara Bay lighthouse, in the municipality of the same name.

According to information published in the newspaperGranma, natural or legal persons with rights over both means of transport who wish to claim them must go to the Captaincy of Guantánamo, located on Marina Norte street, municipality of Caimanera, or to the Captaincy of Port of Antillas, in Puerto Antillas, in the municipality holguinero of the same name.

They have a period of 30 calendar days to request the return, upon presentation of documents that prove ownership or legal possession of the media.

With some frequency, the authorities find this type of boat on the Cuban coast, they make it known and give their owners a period of time to claim them.

Many of these ships are used by migrants to leave the Island and then transfer on the high seas to others that take them to South Florida, the destination that all Cuban rafters long for.

Other boats are also often abandoned by drug traffickers from the region.

Last October the National Department of Port Captaincies of Cuba reported on thediscovery of three vessels (a boat, a motorsailer and a Zodiac), abandoned on the marine coasts of Baracoa, Niquero (Granma), and Cayito Blanco (Matanzas), respectively.

On that occasion, the confiscation in favor of the Cuban State of another vessel, a speedboat type, was reported.
