A man of Cuban origin was murdered on a farm where a cockfighting ring operated in Miami-Dade, which was dismantled by the police.
The victim, identified as Alfredo Alfonso-Martínez, was found dead last Saturday night, before 10:00 pm, in the area of 18180 Northwest and 129th Avenue.
It is a rural area located in the extreme northwest of Miami-Dade, bordering Broward County, where there are no roads, only well-hidden farms.
Police have not given details of how the crime occurred, but are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to solving the case.
The authorities went to the scene the day after the incident and discovered a ranch next to a dirt road, in the same direction whereoperated a clandestine network of people who were dedicated to cockfighting.
According to the information ofAmerica TeVe, officers found several caged roosters with feathers trimmed, a large fighting ring with chairs and an outside viewing platform, all inside a makeshift shelter.
"Within the cockfighting ring, I observed dried blood, as well as cockfighting paraphernalia, such as spurs and scales, in the vicinity of the ring," explained the officer in charge, quoted byLocal 10.
As a result of this operation, the police arrested a woman identified as Elsa Sastureias, 57, who confessed that she had worked as a waitress at the property since December 8.
Sastureias said she was a friend of the owner, whom she identified as Antonia Guzmán, and said she did not receive any salary, she only received tips.
The woman was charged with attending an animal fighting event and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she was held on $1,000 bail.
The authorities clarified that his arrest is not linked to the murder of Alfonso-Martínez.
