Randy Arozarena thanks López Obrador for granting him Mexican nationality

The Cuban baseball player Randy Arozarena, who competes with Mexico in the V World Baseball Classic, thanked President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for granting him the nationality of that country.

Arozarena, whose performance was decisive in the Aztec team's victory over Puerto Rico that advanced them to the semifinals, also thanked the Mexican fans for their support.

"Thank you for speaking to the president and for giving me nationality and being able to represent you. We are here, active, thank you. Without his (AMLO) help it would not have been possible. We are going to give it," he said in a direct message on his social networks.

The Tampa Bay Rays player dedicated a few words to the Mexican public, who have been cheering for their team from the beginning and until the end of each Classic game.

"Hey, thank you, thank you race... thank you, thank you for all your support, blessings. I love you, I really love you. We have to enjoy until Sunday, come on, yes it is possible with your support," said the man from Pinar del Río.

The arrival of Mexico to the semifinals for the first time in the history of the World Classic has excited the country and its president López Obrador, who shared a video on his Twitter account in which he was seen enjoying the game.

"Only politics in favor of the poor is greater than the passion for baseball. Mexico 5-Puerto Rico 4 Congratulations, horses!", he expressed.

After defeating the Puerto Rican team last Friday, the team North American will return to LoanDepot Park in Miami on Monday, March 20, where they will face Japan.

Randy Arozarena is one of the Cuban players with the best performance in the Classic World.

He was the star of the clash against Puerto Rico, catching a ball with spectacular fielding that seemed to go for a home run, thereby strengthening the 5×4 advantage that his team showed in the eighth inning and which it maintained until the end.

The gardener received Mexican citizenship in April of last year.

"I want to thank God, the Mexican people and the authorities who helped me fulfill one more dream in my life. Now I am officially naturalized Mexican," Arozarena wrote this Wednesday on his Facebook profile.

Arozarena achieved fame as part of the Tampa Bay Rays team, where he hit 10 home runs and was the most valuable player of the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros in 2020.
