Neighbors in the Cuban province of Pinar del Río are asking for help on social media for a girl hospitalized in the burns unit of the pediatric hospital, for whom medical supplies and nitrofurazone are needed.

"We need: medical supplies, gloves, gauze, nitrofurazone," posted on Facebook the internet user identified as Manuel Jesús Candano Rodríguez.

He added that "everything that helps us with burns would be important to us."

In another post, the activist refuted a supposed nurse from the hospital who claims that there is "no shortage of supplies or medications" in the facility. The nurse also indicates that the girl suffered the burn due to the negligence of the family members who were taking care of her.

He stated that during Covid "I personally went to the hospital to make a donation of many sterile medications and they told me no, so I went to the boy's father [a patient] in person. That father spent more than 15 days walking all over Pinar del Río looking for nitrofurazone for his son," he recounted.

In the last two years, Cubans have faced a severe shortage of medications that has forced them to create management groups on social media.

However, the regime not only tries to hide the scarcity but has also, in recent cases, taken it upon itself to "deny" the lack of supplies, arguing that hospitals have "everything necessary" for patient care.

Last week, after Cubans on social media requested medicine for the actor Rubén Breña, the Hermanos Ameijeiras hospital in Havana released a statement claiming that it had all the resources for his treatment. The artist passed away the next day.

In recent days, it was reported that a young Cuban has been waiting for months to undergo surgery for a hernia that doesn't even let him walk. He stated that he has not been able to have the surgery due to lack of resources.

Also the case of children in Camagüey who do not have treatment to control the seizures.
