More than 10 dead and 100 injured in stampede at El Salvador stadium

At least12 people died and about 100 were injured after ahuman stampede during a soccer match at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador, the Salvadoran capital, this Saturday night.

The tragedy occurred during the match between Alianza and Club Deportivo FAS, in the quarterfinals of the first division in El Salvador, and would have been generated by overcrowding in one of the locations of the Cuscatlán stadium, media outlets reported.press.

The match was immediately suspended following the events.

According to videos posted on social media, an avalanche of fans tried to enter the stadium after the doors closed.

The images show a large wave of humans trying to break down the gates at the entrance to the premises.

Authorities believe that some attendees may have purchased fake tickets, but the cause of the tragedy has not yet been clarified.

As reported by the National Civil Police (PNC) and the presidentNayib Bukele, an exhaustive investigation will be carried out to investigate what happened.

The Salvadoran Football Federation announced in a statement that after the stampede all football will be suspended nationwide and called an urgent meeting with the Sports Venue Safety Commission to clarify what happened.

Human stampedes at concerts, festivals, sports matches and celebrations of all kinds have left hundreds dead and injured in several countries.

Last year there was atragic stampede during the Halloween festival in South Korea, where 154 deaths and more than 80 injuries were confirmed.

In the United States, at least 12 people were injured during the4th of july celebration happened in Lake Eola Park, Orlando, after those present heard alleged gunshots and fled in a stampede.
