Part of a construction crane fell on a bridge in Fort Lauderdale on this Thursday afternoon, leaving one fatality and three injured.
The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. (local time) on the bridge that crosses the New River, near the intersection of Southeast 4th Street and 3rd Avenue.
The deceased was a construction worker whose identity has not been revealed at this time.
Two people were taken to hospital for medical attention, one in stable condition and another with minor injuries, while a third was treated at the scene.
Impressive images are circulating that show how a piece of crane crushed a car that was traveling at that time on the bridge in the center of that city in Broward County.
"Enjoy every moment of your life because in a matter of a second everything can change," wrote Cuban journalist Javier Díaz before a shocking image that shows the crane fallen on a vehicle.
Witness testimonies describe the moment as shocking. As it fell, the crane hit the corner of a building.
As a precaution, nearby buildings were initially evacuated, although authorities later deemed them safe.
The crane fall caused a hole in the bridge, which will require repairs and an evaluation of the bridge's structural integrity before it reopens.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department will lead the investigation of the tragic event, which fortunately did not cause fatalities.
