Miami police arrested three young people forstealing very expensive equipment from a ship in Pompano Beach, South Florida.

Surveillance video from Complete Marine in Pompano Beach, Broward County, shows the moment two individuals cut theGPS units of a boat in the marina, early Friday morning.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., officers from the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) received a call alerting of therobbery on a boat at a marina located near the 800 block of South Federal Highway, they saidlocal media.

Officers came to investigate, but the three suspects fled in a gray 2018 Mercedes-Benz sedan. The BSO Aviation and K-9 units responded to the call, and followed the men through several jurisdictions from Broward to Miami-Dade County, where other law enforcement agencies ended up intervening in the operation.

The suspects got out of the car near Northwest 32nd Street and 24th Avenue in Miami, leaving the vehicle abandoned on the road, with the doors wide open and a license plate resting on the passenger side floor, images fromtelevision channels.

Officers with long guns and K-9 units canvassed a residential neighborhood and eventually captured and arrested the suspected robbers.

These were identified asHansen Hernandez, 20 years old,Alexis Ruiz, 20, andCarlos Socorro, 19.

This weekend, the trio appeared before a judge to answer several charges, includinggrand theft, burglary andescape from the police.

TheStolen GPS units, valued at about $20,000, have not been recovered. The suspects possibly disposed of these before being arrested.

David Giannone, owner of Complete Marine, showed the channel7News the space where the stolen GPS mapping units were once located. “As you can see, two Garmin units are missing from the dashboard,” he said.

“The problem is that when they take these units away, they actually cut the wiring behind the units to quickly remove them instead of disconnecting them, which causes severe damage to the boat's wiring,” he explained.

In August, 10 people in Monroe County were also arrested for stealing GPS units from boats. The stolen equipment was valued at millions of dollars.
