Cockroaches invade Juan Manuel Márquez children's hospital in Havana

Cockroaches roam freely in the beds.

Thespoons They roam freely in the beds of the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Teaching Hospital, according to a citizen complaint made known on social networks.

"These are the conditions at the Juan Manuel Márquez Hospital, in Marianao. The pediatric ward is full of cockroaches and there are no medications", wrote journalist Mario J. Penton on Twitter, who accompanied his message with a video that was sent to him.

In the images you can see at least four small cockroaches, three of them on the mattress and a fourth on the bed rail.

In the comments section of the publication, several Cubans said they had lived similar experiences themselves both in that and other hospitals.

"I still have a video from when I was there three years ago with my son, about the incredible cockroaches [...] If you want my video I will gladly share it with you" wrote one mother.

"Look how it is, they prohibit taking out cell phones in certain hospitals, for obvious reasons. The paradise of Medical Power is falling,"another commentator noted.

"That is terrorism by the State against the people"; "All the hospitals in Cuba are like this, my mother was hospitalized in Ameijeiras 10 years ago and there was nothing and the cockroaches were everywhere. A real disgusting thing," were other opinions

"Unfortunately Cuba has been like this for many years, but if a single cockroach appears in a hospital in the USA, they will hold 15 round tables about how inhuman capitalism is", ironically a fifth commentator.

It is not the first time that Mario J. Penton shares a scene like that. In December of last year, a similar video attested, once again, to the Cuban public health crisis.

In recent years there have been several reports of similar cases.

In March 2020, when the incipient coronavirus pandemic was making its way, a video of acockroach walking on a table at the Doctor Miguel Enríquez Clinical Surgical Hospital, also known as La Benéfica, turned stomachs on social networks.

In November of that same year,The complaint came from the Calixto García University Hospital, in a video recorded by a worker at that medical-teaching institution.

In June 2021, it was the activist José Tomás Fernández who reported that he had had toliving with an uncontrollable cockroach infestationand bathrooms overflowing with garbage while he was admitted as a suspected COVID-19 patient at the Salvador Allende Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital, former Quinta Covadonga in Havana.
