The defeat this Tuesday againstBrazil, four races to two, left the team without any options to fight for the medals.cuban baseball team, which will now seek fifth place against the Dominican Republic in the continuation of theXIX Pan American Games.
This Tuesday was a day of definitions, in which the four teams that will go to theSuper Round of Santiago 2023.
For that instance, the Cuban team lost its rights to participate after the defeat against the Brazilian representative, ultimately winner of group B, in which they were alsoVenezuela andColombia.
“We have seen a very compact Brazilian team. A team (against) that we thought we could beat,” the Cuban manager said in his impressions.Armando Johnson Zaldívar.
The South American team scored its first run in the second inning and then added three more in the sixth inning to clinch the match. Meanwhile, the Cuban scores came in the two concluding chapters, without being able to turn the score around.
“The Brazilian pitcher behaved in very good shape, very good placement of the throws, very goodsliders and I think that also slowed down our offensive a little,” added the technical director.
Felipe Marcondes was the winning pitcher of the match, while José Ramón Rodríguez took the loss.
Johnson confirmed that the Cuban offensive was not in shape and noted the departure of theshortstop Erisbel Arruebarruena as one of the causes of instability in the whole.
Arruebarruena suffered an injury to his right arm due to the diabetes mellitus he suffers from. This issue led the delegation's medical team to decide that it was not fit to face the event.
Other keys to the Cuban defeat were also in the pitchers. “The pitching wasn't good either, not even against Venezuela. I think that is fundamental because in the previous game (against Venezuela) we made runs to win, but that time the pitching couldn't hold up. But nothing, Brazil was better,” Johnson said.
With this result, the match for fifth place from the previous edition is repeated inFive 2019. On that occasion, the Dominicans - who will be Cuba's rivals this Wednesday, at three in the afternoon local time -they won withscore 10 runs for 9. Rey Vicente Anglada was the helmsman on that occasion.
